A total of 599 people have so far succumbed to COVID-19 as 10 more deaths were recorded over the previous 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health.

According to the update the latest victims were, six elderly men, two elderly women another was a middle-aged male and the other a young man. All had co-morbidities. The Ministry of Health also confirmed 280 new cases from samples collected between Wednesday and Monday.

Despite the new cases, those remaining active decreased to 9,833 after 432 people were released from the ministry’s care; 62 were discharged from public health facilities while 370 were released from home self-isolation.

There were 450 patients at hospitals with 20 and 45 warded in Intensive Care and High Dependency Units respectively at the Couva Hospital and Multi-Training Facility. There were a total of 8,934 people in home self-isolation, 169 at step-down facilities and 117 at state quarantine facilities.

The number of people vaccinated climbed to 3,489 after 1,161 people received their second doses.

The total number of people to receive their first dose also climbed to 129,437 of which 77,973 people received Oxford-AstraZeneca doses while 51,464 received Sinopharm doses.

This means 6,421 additional people were inoculated within the last 24 hours.
