A 16-year-old youth of Claxton Bay is now charged with manslaughter, possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition, in connection with the death of Tamika Griffith who was fatally shot on February 9.

The teen was charged on Thursday following the advice of Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Joan Honore-Paul.

Around 2.50 pm on February 9, police responded to a report of loud explosions at Sookoo Trace, Claxton Bay.

On arrival, the officers met the accused at the scene. The officers then made a check and saw Tamika Griffith gasping for breath while slumped on a brown wooden couch, with an apparent gunshot wound to her head.

Insp Ramlogan retrieved one nine-millimetre calibre spent casing in the living room and gave it over to PC Mahadeo.

Mahadeo and WPC Alexander took the injured girl to the San Fernando General Hospital, but she died around 4.10 pm.

Police conducted enquiries, interviewed the 16-year-old teen and arrested him on the same date. He was released pending further investigations. He was rearrested on Wednesday.
