Four people, among them two Venezuelans, are assisting police with their
investigations into the seizure of a firearm and a quantity of ammunition on Monday night.
A release from the Police Service said the group was held during an Operation Night Vision exercise executed by officers of the Traffic and Highway Patrol Branch along the Churchill-Roosevelt Highway in Aranguez.
Officers reportedly stopped a vehicle with four people and searched it.
One pistol and seven rounds of nine millimetre ammunition were found.
The occupants of the car were arrested.
Three charged with trafficking cocaine
A woman and two men have been charged with possession of
cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
They are expected to appear virtually at the Arima Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
A police release said Andrew Mehlal, 30, of California, Connon Samuel, 35, and
Colleen Samuel, 32, both of Five Rivers, Arouca, were arrested and charged on Monday by PC Romany.
The trio were detained after officers seized 31.9 grammes of cocaine during a crime exercise– Operation Strike Back 3, which included the search of two homes.
The exercise was conducted in the Eastern and Northern Divisions.
It was co-ordinated by ASP Coggins, Insp Highly and supervised by Cpl Bedase and PC
It also included members of the Northern Division Task Force (NDTF) – Area Central and the NDTF Intel Team.
