Three Canadian artistes were knocked out of the semi-final stage of the CSM26 which was broadcast over the weekend on CNC3, Sangeet 106.1 and various social media sites.
The semi-final round has been described as one of the best in the history of the competition, and much of it had to do with the venue at SAPA, South Trinidad, and the fact that the event was able to be pre-recorded and packaged for television.
It featured performances from Canada, New York, Guyana and T&T, with 36 artistes competing for a place in the Grand Final for a chance to be crowned the new Chutney Soca Monarch for 2021.
A completely new and unique aspect of the competition was the inclusion of ‘live’ comments from judges.
All artistes were supported by the back-up ‘live’ band, Avatar headed by Kishore ‘Wizzy Ramdath.
In New York, the back-up band was RML Band led by Rishi Lakhan. Guyana was supported by Shakti Strings led by Avinash Roopchand.
The appointed CSM teams in Guyana were led by WR Reaz from Team MMR, New York was led by Ranjeev Ramdeen, MuzikHead and Xtreme Soundz Entertainment, Toronto was led by Vashtie Doorga from Doorga Entertainment.
The event was packaged for TV and aired via CNC3, Sangeet 106.1 and via several social media outlets across the USA, Canada, Suriname and Guyana. Tens of thousands would have viewed the semi-final event which was broken into two parts.
All COVID-19 protocols would have been observed at SAPA as approximately 500 performers would have passed through the facility over an eight hour period.
The semi-final round was one of the most competitive in the 26- year history of the show, with artistes really giving their all with dancers and presentations that were befitting of a Grand Final. Producers said they were very happy as it showed the “commitment of the players in the industry especially in these very trying times and with a raging pandemic that a show of this quality and stature could have been produced at the level that it was.”
CSM26 was sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Arts, NLCB, BMobile, Southex, and the official media partners CNC3, Sangeet 106.1 and Guardian Media Limited
The 23 artistes who will now join GI Beharry to compete for the title of Chutney Soca Monarch 2021 are:

For the Grand Final on February 13, organisers said fans can expect a show with all the frills they have become accustomed to at the ‘live’ events. It will air via CNC3 and Sangeet 106.1 and will also be available via ‘Southex Events’ on YouTube ‘live’
