A late-stage study of Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine candidate has been paused while the company investigates whether a study participant’s “unexplained illness” is related to the shot, the company announced Monday, Oct. 12, 2020.

The Ministry of Health has confirmed 42 new COVID-19 cases in T&T. The new cases were from results of samples taken between October 26 and 28 and bring the total number of local infections to 5,636.

The number of people to have recovered from the virus also increased to 4,293 after 47 people were released from the ministry’s care.

Four were discharged from public health facilities while 43 were released from home self-isolation as recovered community cases. These releases also brought the number of active cases down to 1,236.

Of these, 1,146 were in home self-isolation, 58 at hospitals and 32 in step-down/transitional facilities. There were 115 people in state quarantine facilities.

This number is expected to grow within the next few days as over 100 nationals are expected to return home from Miami and New York between October 29 and 31.

No additional deaths were recorded yesterday, with the count remaining at 107. (RK)
