7 charged with breaching COVID-19 Regulations
Seven men have been charged with breaching the Covid-19 Regulations.
The accused are Garnet Persad, 66, Dave Jassant, 28, Suresh Ramsawak, 49, Ramraj Jassan, 41, Harry Rampersadsingh, 36 and Riazodeen Karim, 51, all of the Penal district, were arrested by officers of the Penal Police Station, for breaching Regulation 2(a) of the Public Health Ordinance Regulations – gathering in a public place where the number of people exceeded five.
Meanwhile, Premchan Seerattan, 55, also of Penal, was charged with conducting the business of a bar during the specified period and providing the amenity of seated accommodation at a restaurant and bar to customers during the specified period.
The Police Service said they were held during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the
district around 10 am on Monday .
Based on information received, officers proceeded to a restaurant and bar located at Goodman Trace Junction, Penal Rock Road, Penal, where they observed a number of people seated within the premises consuming alcoholic beverages.
The seven men were arrested in connection with the breach.
Charges were laid by Sgt. Siew, of the Penal Police Station, on Monday.
3 accused of killing Biche woman
Three people have been charged with the murder of Sherma Francis.
They were expected to appear appear in the Rio Claro Magistrates’ court yesterday.
A Police Service statement identified the accused as Richard Flemming, 39, Brandon Deron Lewis, aka ‘Pumpkin’, 27, and Shida Hosein, 29, all of the Biche district,
The charged against them were laid following advice received from Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard SC, on Monday.
Flemming faces additional charges of possession of firearm and possession of ammunition.
Francis, 55, of Charuma Village, Biche, was in the company of several people close to her home on August 1, 2020 when two motor vehicles approached and several loud explosions were heard.
The vehicles then sped off.
The victimwas taken to the Rio Claro Health Centre for treatment where she died.
Investigations, supervised by ASP Douglas and Insp. Maharaj, were
launched into the incident and three suspects were subsequently arrested last week Tuesday.
