Accused granted $200,000 bail for manslaughter

A 27-year-old man of Crown Trace in Enterprise, was granted bail of $200,000 or cash alternative of $17,000, when he reappeared before the Chaguanas Magistrates’ Court today, in virtual proceedings, to answer to the charge of manslaughter.

The accused, Jesse Daniel, had initially appeared before the court, yesterday.

He went before Magistrate Rambachand today, was granted bail, and had his matter postponed to July 15th 2020. The matter will be heard jointly with the other accused in the manslaughter case—Akile Smith and Warren John.

According to official police reports, the manslaughter charge was laid by Detective Corporal Phillip following consultations held with the Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, Ms Joan Honore-Paul, in relation to the murder of 28-year-old Vicky Baldeo, of Crown Trace, Enterprise. Baldeo died on Friday 28th February 2020, from wounds sustained on Tuesday 25th February 2020.

Reports are that the victim was struck down by an oncoming vehicle while attempting to escape being further beaten by three men.

The accused, Jesse Daniel, subsequently surrendered to police at the Chaguanas Police Station on Wednesday June 10th 2020, after months of evading arrest by the Homicide detectives. The other two suspects—Akiel Smith and Warren John—were previously arrested and charged with manslaughter.

Investigations were conducted by officers of the Homicide Bureau Region Three Office, and spear-headed by Inspector Figaro, under the supervision of Superintendent Dhillpaul.
