Acting Commissioner of police McDonald Jacob says only vaccinated officers will be assigned to safe zones. According to the commissioner, officers will carry identification cards that will include a photo and will certify that they have been vaccinated. The following is a press release from the TTPS:
Ag. Commissioner of Police McDonald Jacob today, gave the assurance that officers of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) stand ready to ensure the public health guidelines are being adhered to within Safe Zones.
In preparation for the rollout of the new guidelines, on Monday 11th October, 2021, Ag. CoP Jacob met with Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Roshan Parasram and other Ministry of Health officials today. It was outlined that the enforcement will be a coordinated effort that will include officers of the TTPS, Municipal officers and Ministry of Health Inspectors. He also emphasized that only vaccinated officers will be assigned to the Safe Zones.
These officers will carry identification cards that will include a photo and will certify that they have been vaccinated. These cards will be issued and signed by the Commissioner of Police, after proof of vaccination has been verified. However, in the case of any emergencies that may occur within a Safe Zone, to ensure an effective response, available resources will be deployed and may also include unvaccinated officers.
At an internal meeting that included Divisional Commanders, Secretary of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service Social Welfare Association, Ancil Forde, members of the TTPS Legal Department and other members of staff, Ag. CoP Jacob expressed confidence that, as has been the case since the start of the pandemic, officers are wellprepared to ensure adherence to the new regulations.
He is hoping that both business owners and patrons will continue to work within the guidelines of the law which includes ensuring that takeaway/curbside services are not conducted within the Safe Zones.
