Another manager of Caribbean Airlines, Steve Acevedo, has resigned.

He was CAL’s Chief Operating Officer (COO).

CAL confirmed the departure earlier in the week but gave no details beyond that Acevedo had resigned and Yannis Gounaris had also previously resigned.

Guardian Media reported last month that Gounaris resigned from the post of CAL’s Chief Commercial Officer. He had been based in the US. Gounaris had cited disagreement with a top CAL manager.

Acevedo, who subsequently resigned, is reported to have left on November 19. He had been COO since around 2018.

During CAL’s move to restructure and downsize staff following heavy financial problems post-lockdown since March 2020, there had been concerns in some sectors of CAL about “top-heavy management.”

The airline has moved to streamline operations, including routes and aircraft assets.

Meanwhile, CAL’s move to retrench about 45 per cent of its 252 pilots is said to be headed for the Industrial Court on certain issues.

The pilots’ issues had been taken to the Labour Ministry but were unresolved and consequently some issues were expected to become court matters.
