Exactly one week after Tristan Mathison, 19, of Sangre Grande drowned at the Rio Seco waterfall in Matura, another 19-year-old student has met the same fate.

Stephon Logan, 19, of Porters Lane, Siparia drowned at the waterfall around 4 pm Saturday.

Eyewitnesses told police that Logan, who was a member of a hiking group consisting mainly of students from Siparia and Fyzabad, was bathing with his friends when he got into difficulties and disappeared under the water.

His friends searched for him late into the night but could not find his body.

A report was made to the Matura police around 6 pm on Saturday and a party of officers visited the scene yesterday morning accompanied by a rescue team that included fire officers and villagers.

Logan’s body was discovered around 10 am yesterday.

His body was viewed by the District Medical Officer and removed by undertakers to the Sangre Grande Hospital’s mortuary.

A post mortem will be conducted today.
