The 9,000 doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines which had been promised to this country by the Government of Bermuda, have arrived, and are being added to the current vaccination drive.
The Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs has confirmed the vaccines landed at Piarco International Airport at 4:23 pm yesterday, Monday May 24th.
An official statement from the Ministry says Senator the Honorable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs took receipt of the vaccines, which were handed over immediately to the technical team of the Ministry of Health, represented by Anesa Doodnath-Siboo Principal Pharmacist (Ag.).
Also on hand to receive the vaccines was this country’s Ambassador to CARICOM, Her Excellency Frances Seignoret.
The 9,000 World Health Organization (WHO) approved AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines from the Government and people of Bermuda are set to expire at the end of June. Both Minister Browne and the Ministry of Health have indicated that there is enough time to get the jabs distributed before that happens.
Volcano ravaged St Vincent and the Grenadines also is donating its AstraZeneca jabs to this country—some 16,000 doses.
Meanwhile, Government continues its hunt for vaccines, conducting negotiations with both the US Government and the European Union, both of whom have indicated their willingness to share their excess vaccines with developing countries.
