A Barrackpore farmer was denied bail when he stood before a Princes Town magistrate on a charge of sexually touching a 13-year-old girl.
Jason Ramsaroop, 35, appeared virtually before Magistrate Wendy Dougdeen-Bally on Monday to answer for the offence that allegedly occurred on July 15.
According to the police, the girl’s relative reported that she was allegedly sexually assaulted while walking along Clement Street, Barrackpore. Cpl Fairley of the Southern Division Child Protection Unit led an investigation and heard that the accused called the girl over to his house while she walked along Clement Steet, Barrackpore.
The girl told police that when she entered, the man allegedly locked the door.
He then pushed her on his bed and sexually assaulted her. During Monday’s hearing, Prosecutor Sgt Shazeed Mohammed objected to bail because there may be interaction with the child.
Dougdeen-Bally remanded Ramsaroop into State custody and adjourned the matter to January 4.
