Telecommunications providers, bmobile and Digicel, have both agreed to waive access charges for those persons accessing UWI-Affiliated websites on their respective networks, for the next three months.
The waiver went into effect today, with the news being confirmed by The UWI St Augustine Campus.
According to The UWI, regardless of how a person gets on to the websites, their data access will be zero-rated.
Details on the arrangement follow in The UWI’s official statement…
ST. AUGUSTINE, Trinidad and Tobago. Friday 17 April, 2020 – In partnership with local telecommunication providers, bmobile and Digicel, The UWI St. Augustine Campus is pleased to advise that the providers have agreed to a 3-month waiver of data access charges (zero-rating) for those accessing UWI-affiliated websites on the respective networks.
As part of the Campus’s commitment to its community, particularly current and prospective students, this will remove some of the costs associated with remote learning and access. This zero-rating has already been implemented on the bmobile network and becomes available from today, Friday April 17 on the Digicel network. This service will continue on both networks until July 10.
Please note that the intent of this service is as follows:
- Persons can use their Broadband plan at home to access the zero-rated sites listed below. Since that is a specified amount per month, no change is expected in cost.
- Persons using their smartphones must have a data plan. When they access the-zero rated sites, they will not be charged.
- Persons can use their phones as a hotspot at home to access internet if needed. Only the sites listed below will be zero rated.
