A body was found in a vessel at Carenage on Friday.

It was identified as Shane Taylor, 40, of #11 Eccles Road, Mayaro. He was an Ordinary Seaman.

According to a police report, W/Ag/Cpl Reyes reported having boarded a vessel by the name of “Knockabout 2”, which was anchored South Chaguaramas Terminal 2, Chaguaramas and met with Marine Superintendent R. Arrindell who reported that at about 10:30 pm on Friday he discovered Taylor lying on the floor in the cabin, un-responsive.

The EHS was contacted and the District Medical Officer (DMO), Dr Clapperton who made his pronouncement and ordered the body’s removal to the Forensic Science Centre for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

In an unrelated incident, at about 2:46 pm on Friday, a member of the public was proceeding East along the Eastern Main Road, Arouca, when he saw the decomposing body of a male person in a river in the vicinity of Palms Hotel.

PC Romany and a party of officers subsequently responded.

On arrival, the officers saw the body of the unidentified man lying on its back in approximately eight inches of water.

Due to the state of decomposition, there were no visible injuries.

The scene was processed and DMO Dr Ramroop ordered the body to be removed to the Forensic Science Centre for an autopsy pending positive identification.
