The body of a woman believed to be in her 40s was fished out of the Gulf of Paria, along the Beetham Highway opposite City Gate, on Friday.

According to a police report, at about 7:20 am, the body was discovered floating in the waters off Sea Lots, by residents of the area.

Police said the deceased is of East Indian descent, appeared to be in her 40s, and was wearing a black top and green skirt.

Reports are that the body was found face down in the water within the Bay Area opposite City Gate, in the vicinity of the west bound lane of the Beetham highway, approximately 500 feet east of the Lighthouse.

The body, which was removed to the Forensic Science Centre, is yet to be identified.

Upon identification, an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
