Minister of Finance, Colm Imbert MP.

It is confirmed—the reading of the National Budget for 2020-2021 will be on Monday 5th October 2020.

Minister of Finance, Colm Imbert MP will present the National Budget on that date in the Parliament before the House of Representatives.

The Ministry of Finance released a short statement on the matter, earlier today.

Two days after the PNM won the General Election (on August 10th), Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley said the National Budget would be the first order of business of his new administration.

Dr. Rowley said T&T’s future is bright but there are some difficult days ahead within the next two years. The Prime Minister announced that allocations for digitisation, youth, and agriculture would be seen in the upcoming budget.

In the release issued today, the Finance Minister admitted that this Budget will be read while the country faces restricted financial circumstances.

However, notwithstanding that challenge, the Ministry of Finance is asking business organisations, trade unions, and interest groups to put forward their recommendations for the fiscal measures and initiatives they would like to see in the 2021 Budget.

Prior to the Budget presentation, on September 28th, the Ministry will host a virtual broadcast titled, “Spotlight on the Budget and Economy”, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.
