One man was killed and another wounded in a shooting in Arima on Saturday night.

According to reports, around 8.10 pm, Anton “Buju” Joseph, 27, and an unidentified friend were standing along Train Line Road, Pinto Road, in Arima, when they heard a volley of gunshots. Joseph’s 19-year-old friend told police that Joseph was shot several times while he sustained one gunshot wound to his leg.

The teenager abandoned his wounded friend and ran away to alert neighbours, who called the police.

Both men were taken to the Arima District Hospital but Joseph died while receiving treatment.

His friend was treated and remained in a stable condition, up to late yesterday.

Guardian Media understands that the attack on Joseph came almost two years after he survived another attempt on his life. In March 2019, Joseph was standing near his home when he was shot several times.

Homicide detectives were said to be investigating whether both incidents are linked.

An autopsy will be performed on Joseph’s body at the Forensic Science Centre in St James, this morning. (DA)
