A camping adventure for Carnival ended in tragedy after an Arima man died in a car crash in Manzanilla.

Isaiah Lopez, 24, of Calvary Hill, Arima died on impact while the driver Owen Jwahir, 24, of Olera Road, Arima suffered serious injuries.

Police said they were camping in the area and were on their way to Sangre Grande to purchase food items.

According to a police report, around 10.15 am Jwahir was heading north in a white Nissan B 13 along the Manzanilla/Mayaro Road when he lost control of the car which slammed into an electricity pole.

A video circulating on social media showed Lopez’s body hanging out the front passenger window.

The jaws of life had to be used to remove the victims.

Jwahir remains in a serious condition at the Sangre Grande Hospital up to late yesterday evening.

Snr Supt Moore advised members of the public, especially drivers of vehicles to moderate their speed while driving on the road and if intoxicated they should take a rest or gave another person who is sober to drive the vehicle.

Sgt Racha, WPC Kalipersad and PC Moore visited the scene.

PC Monsegue of the Manzanilla Police Station is continuing investigations.
