A 44-year-old man was shot and wounded by a man unknown to him while at his home in Carenage on Monday evening.

According to a police report, at about 7.05 pm the victim was at his home at Murphy Street, along with one of his cousins, when a man unknown to them came through the victim’s small garden in his yard.

The suspect, pointed a gun at the victim and fired several shots. The victim attempted to escape by jumping into the nearby river but was pursued by the assailant, until he raised an alarm, causing the suspect to run away.

The victim, police said, was shot in the left arm and the right thigh.

He was conveyed to St James Medical Facility, treated and later transferred to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he was warded in a stable condition.

The suspect was described to the police as a man of mixed descent, slim built, approximately five feet four inches tall with black rubber boots.

Investigations are continuing.
