The Chaguanas Borough Corporation (CBC) has started the process sanitising the homes of persons who are suspected of having the COVID-19 virus.
Mayor Vandana Mohit told Guardian Media that the CBC has partnered with Sanitec, a sanitisation company.
She is advising affected families as such to contact their councillors for guidance as to getting their premises sanitised.
Mohit said the streets and the market would be sanitised daily as part of the CBC’s efforts to keep the COVID-19 virus at bay. Mohit said homeless persons and street dwellers in Central are getting constant support.
Mohit said several private individuals, householders and business organisations have joined with the CBC to assist the poorest of the poor in the community.
Mohit said the number of street dwellers in Chaguanas are low when compared to other urban communities.
She said she planned to have talks with the Ministry of Social Development to secure housing accommodations for street dwellers. The mayor said she was heartbroken to see mothers begging with children outside businesses.
Mohit said she had taken steps for these people to get food, clothing and other necessities. The mayor also made a special appeal to the public to assist single mothers in what avenue they could.
