The Chaguanas Borough Corporation would be closing the Chaguanas Market on Wednesday 29 April 2020, to facilitate sanitizing exercises.
Speaking with Guardian Media on Monday at her offices at Cumberbatch Street, the Mayor of Chaguanas, Her Worship Vandana Mohit, said the market would re-open on Thursday 30 April 2020.
Vendors have been asked to remove all goods and belongings by 1 pm on Tuesday 28 April 2020, and the market will close early on that day, to allow for necessary preparation before the sanitization takes place.
In addition, the borough will be sanitizing heavily trafficked areas on Wednesday, between 4:00 and 9:00 pm. These roads include Endeavour Road, Narsaloo Ramaya Marg Road, Rajkumar Road, Rodney Road and the Endeavour Flyover. Motorists would be asked to use alternate routes during that period.
Mayor Mohit notes that while the exercise would cause some level of inconvenience, it was for the greater good of the community, as the Borough goes all out to reduce the risk of the spread of the COVID-19.
The Chaguanas Mayor told Guardian Media that the sanitizing exercise was being undertaken—at no charge—by Sanitec, a sanitation company that volunteered its services to the people of Chaguanas.
Mayor Mohit said regular sanitization would be taking place in the Borough and would be extended throughout the community.
