A Colombian man was granted bail in the sum of $50,000 when he appeared before Magistrate Indra Ramoo-Haynes, at the Tunapuna Third Magistrates’ Court, on Thursday 17th March 2022, to face the charge of sexual touching of a child.

The accused also was ordered to have no contact (directly or indirectly) with the victim.  He has been instructed to report to the Belmont Police Station once per week.

The accused is due to reappear in court on 28th June 2022.

According to an official statement from the Police Service, the charge stems from a report made to police, in which a 14-year-old girl alleged that on 24th January 2022, a man who was a visitor at her home touched her breast.  The victim told her parents about the incident and a report was lodged with the Northern Division Child Protection Unit (CPU) on the same day.

Investigations were initiated and enquiries led to the arrest of the alleged offender, who was charged on 16th March 2022, with sexual touching of a child.

The investigation was supervised by W/Supt. Claire Guy-Alleyne, ASP Roberts, Insp. Davidson, and Sgt. Bishop.  Investigations were conducted by WPC Pardassie.
