A young boy has died after being shot in his Arima home on Thursday night, and police are trying to determine the circumstances behind the tragic incident.

According to reports, the ten-year-old boy was at home when his family heard a loud explosion at about 8 pm.

The boy was found with a gunshot wound by his stepmother and was taken to hospital.  However, he did not survive the injury.

His body was removed from the Arima Hospital to a funeral home until it is time for an autopsy.

Guardian Media understands police officers found one spent 9-mm shell casing, one black coloured Smith & Wesson 9-mm pistol.  Also found on the scene were a magazine and 8 rounds of 9-mm ammunition.

The child’s death has not yet been classified.

Investigations are ongoing.
