Police officers arrested four people and seized firearms, ammunition and a quantity of narcotics over the weekend.
In the first incident, two people were arrested with a firearm and a quantity of ammunition in Cunupia by officers of the Port-of-Spain Task Force and the Belmont Operational Unit during an anti-crime exercise conducted on Saturday.
During the exercise, the officers search a house in Cunupia and found and seized one AK-47 firearm and 19 rounds 5.56 ammunition. Two people on the property were arrested in connection with the find.
The exercise was coordinated by ACP William Nurse, spearheaded by Snr Supt Daniel Moore, Superintendents Rueben and Khan, ASPs Pooran and Cumberbatch, Insp. Walker and supervised by Sgts Alexander and Parris.
In the other exercise, two men were arrested for drug possession while a firearm, ammunition and quantity of marijuana were seized by officers of the North Eastern Divisional Task Force on Saturday.
During the exercise, one man from El Socorro, San Juan, was arrested with 17 grams of cocaine and another man from Morvant was arrested for possession of 160 grams of marijuana.
While continuing their searches, the officers found and seized a Bushmaster XM-15 Assault Rifle with one magazine and ten rounds 5.56 ammunition at an abandoned lot in Saw Mill Avenue, Morvant and 114 grams of marijuana under a bridge at Ward Land Extension. No one was arrested for these finds.
The exercise, spearheaded by Snr Supt Phillip, Supt Maynard-Wilson, Supt Alexander and Insp Ramsingh, and supervised by Sgt Martin, Cpls Daniel and Duncan and was conducted between 12 midday and 3.30 pm on Saturday.
Investigations are continuing into all the matters.
