San Fernando City Corporation worker Damien Scoon was killed during a shootout with the police in his apartment in San Fernando on Monday morning.
According to a police report, around 4.21 am a joint team from the Special Intelligence Unit and Multi-Operational Police Section went to Scoon’s apartment at Jamadar Street.
They forcibly entered the apartment and were confronted by Scoon who was standing in the living room armed with a gun.
The police ordered him to drop the weapon but Scoon began firing his gun while walking towards them. The officers returned fire, hitting Scoon about his body.
The EHS ambulance took him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Among the officers visiting the scene were Supt Nobbee, ASP Persad, Insp Prescott, Sgts Noyan, Charles and PCs Madoo, and Alexander. Investigations are continuing.
Last Friday, Cuban national Carlos Manuel Olivere, 53, was shot and killed by a Municipal police officer in Princes Town after he attacked and struck another officer with a commercial chain.
