Officers of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service will now be entitled to compensation should they contract COVID-19.
As part of an agreement between the TTPS and the Guardian Group, officers will be covered by a Guardian Life of the Caribbean insurance plan.
Should an officer test positive for the virus, they will receive $10,000, according to CEO of the Guardian Group Ravi Tewari.
And in the instance that an officer dies from the virus, the officer’s dependants will receive an additional $25,000.
Thanking the Group, Police Commissioner Gary Griffith, speaking at a press conference outside of the Woodbrook Police Station, said the agreement will give officers a morale boost.
He said he is pleased with the support the Service has been receiving from the private sector.
As part of another agreement between both parties, the Guardian Group will install 80 sanitation stations at police stations across the country.
