Police have arrested two men in connection with several incidents involving the theft of sums of cash from vehicles in the Southern Division.

Sherwin Alexander, 39, of Pioneer Drive, Sea Lots, and Christopher Hoyte, 35, of John Jules Trace, Fyzabad, were arrested on Monday during an anti-crime exercise.

They were charged with possession of ammunition after a search of their vehicle was conducted and a quantity of ammunition found.

The Police Service said in a statement yesterday that further investigations revealed that the suspects were also involved in a string of thefts that had been reported in San Fernando.

They were subsequently charged for larceny last week Friday.

They appeared virtually in the San Fernando Magistrates’ Court on Monday. Each was placed on bail with a surety of $180,000 on the possession of ammunition charge and bail with a surety of $180,000 for the charge of larceny.

In one incident, the victim parked and secured his vehicle at a compound in San Fernando. The victim discovered the right rear window had been smashed when he returned to the vehicle.

Subsequent checks revealed that a quantity of cash was also missing.

In another incident, the victim went to a bank located in San Fernando and cashed a cheque.

He returned to his vehicle and placed the cash under the right sun visor, secured the vehicle and proceeded to another bank in the area.

He returned to the vehicle later that day and discovered the left front window smashed and the cash missing.

Police are appealing to citizens to be vigilant, especially when conducting bank transactions and to refrain from leaving valuables, including sums of cash in parked vehicles.

The exercise was headed by ASP Ali Mohammed and coordinated by acting Insp Teeluck and involved Sgt Wilkinson as well as members of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Southern Division Task Force (SDTF) and San Fernando Police Station.
