Mayaro Police are looking into the circumstance which led to the drowning death of a 24-year-old man on Wednesday 2 December 2020.
He has been identified as Virgil Sandy, a labourer, of Church Road, Mayaro.
Police said around 3:30 pm on Wednesday, Sandy—along with his friends Dindakar Cuppin, 32, and a 15-year-old, all of Church Road—went out in a boat to set a fishing net at the Ortoire River. They then decided to go for a swim.
Reports are that while swimming across the river, Sandy got into difficulty and disappeared under the water.
His friends raised an alarm and fishermen joined in the search for him. His body was found around 8:45 am the following day, Thursday 3 December 2020.
PC Gumbs of the Mayaro Police Station is investigating.
