Ross Cabral, Divisional Manager, Liquor and Non-Foods, Massy Distribution speaks to Major General (Retired) Rodney Smart, Chief Executive Officer, Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM) at the handover ceremony on Monday 9th August 2021.

Duracell® has donated 500 sandbags, 10 cases of AA and AAA Duracell® batteries and ten 25-First Aid Kits to the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM) at a handover ceremony at Massy Distribution, Macoya Road, Trincity. The donation was made to assist the ODPM’s Disaster Supply Kits which are used to assist local communities and businesses, and if required, the Caribbean region during the Wet and Hurricane Seasons.

During the handover ceremony, Mr Ross Cabral, Divisional Manager, Liquor and Non-Foods said, “For the second consecutive year, Massy Distribution will support the ODPM with its Hurricane Preparedness initiative. We recognise the importance of stocking essential items in emergency kits and grab and go bags. Duracell® batteries are necessary in natural disasters such as storms and hurricanes as they can be used to power devices such as flashlights and battery-operated radios. We continuously support the ODPM in its efforts to get persons READY for the Rainy and Hurricane Seasons while minimising the impact of these hazards.”

Ross Cabral, Divisional Manager, Liquor and Non-Foods (second to left) and Product Specialist Joshua Isaac (left) from Massy Distribution handover sandbags, First Aid Kits and Duracell® batteries to Major General (Ret’d) Rodney Smart, Chief Executive Officer of the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM) (second to right) and Relief Officer Keion Wight (left) for their Disaster Supply Kits in anticipation of a higher than normal rainy season.

Major General (Retired) Rodney Smart, Chief Executive Officer, ODPM thanked Duracell® and Massy Distributors for their continued support and partnership. He further underscored the importance of strengthening this collaboration and indicated that the relief items may come in handy this year, given the forecast by the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) of an above normal 2021 Hurricane Season.

In 2020, Duracell® also distributed several items to the ODPM’s Disaster Supply Kit and according to Major General Smart the batteries received were used to assist our first response agencies in their operations, “In addition, some of Duracell® batteries were sent to the St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ Police Service, to assist them with their recovery operations when the La Soufrière volcano erupted.”

Massy Distribution, Product Specialist Joshua Isaac believes Duracell® batteries are the best batteries for disaster preparedness as they are more powerful, contain more energy and are longer lasting. He said “AA and AAA Duracell® can deliver extra power in some devices or extra life in others, in a wide range of devices. Duracell® is known for their high-performance alkaline batteries, speciality cells and rechargeables. Since its creation in the early 1940s, the brand has been trusted for its compact and longer-lasting batteries.”

Duracell® and the ODPM are committed to long-term partnership and reaffirmed that this strategic partnership is both valuable and significant in building a culture of disaster preparedness and resilience across Trinidad and Tobago.
