The Ministry of Health has confirmed eight new COVID-19 infections from samples taken between December 30 and 31, bringing the total number of people to test positive locally up to 7,158.

Despite the new infections, the number of active cases also decreased to 360 after the ministry released 21 people from its care; four people were discharged from public health facilities while 17 people were released from home self-isolation as recovered community cases.

The releases took the tally to 6,671 people to recover from the virus.

Of the active cases, 25 were in hospitals, 66 in step-down/transitional facilities and 261 people were in home self-isolation (17 of which are under the care of the prison system).

There were 216 people in state-quarantine facilities.

Deaths remained at 127.
