Investigations are continuing into a fire which completely destroyed the Asha’s Bake and Shark stall at Maracas Bay early yesterday morning.

Guardian Media understands that the estimated cost of losses stood at $800,000.

According to a police report, fire was seen emanating from the vendor’s booth at about 4 am.

When fire appliances from the Wrightson Road Headquarters and Santa Cruz Fire Station arrived on the scene the building was completely engulfed in the flames.

The fire was quickly extinguished.

A release issued by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Arts confirmed the fire.

It added that the Ministry’s beach facilities manager, the Urban Development Company of Trinidad and Tobago (Udecott) reported that, “its security personnel noticed a plume of smoke emanating from one of the vending booths at around 4 am and upon further inspection it was discovered that vending booth #21 was actively ablaze.”

Investigations are ongoing by T&TEC, the Fire Service and Police Service.
