Firefighters are battling a blaze which is threatening to destroy the home of an elderly man in Siparia.
Officers from the Siparia Fire Station initially responded to a report of a bush fire at Murray Trace. On their arrival, they discovered that the blaze had surrounded a dwelling house belonging to Vibert Milling, 67.
Milling’s shed, a water tank and van had already been destroyed.
There was no water in the area so the appliance had to return to the station to fill up as flames continue to rage and electricity wires began sparking.
Milling, an estate constable, said he left his home to go to Penal and was gone for less than an hour. When he returned he saw the fire outside the house and tried to extinguish it with buckets of water.
