Five persons are expected to appear virtually before a Sangre Grande Magistrate today, to face charges of breaching the public health ordinance.

The five were detained on Saturday night after police received reports of large gatherings in the Sangre Grande community.

A team of officers led by Insp Ramlakhan and Cpl Osouna responded to the reports.

Guardian Media understands that at about 8:15 pm on Saturday July 17th, the police officers saw a group of about 25 persons along Mulchan Street.

The group, on seeing the police, ran in different directions.

However, five people between the ages of 23 and 30 years were detained, including a Coast Guard officer.

One of the men was given an additional charge of being in possession of camouflage clothing.

One fixed penalty notice for failing to wear face mask also was issued.

The charges were laid by PC Mohammed.
