Three persons are expected to appear before the courts today, following arrests made in connection with various offences against children over the weekend.
A fourth person remains in police custody in the Tobago Division, pending charges.
The four arrests come following exercises by the Child Protection Units attached to several policing divisions
In the first incident, officers of the Child Protection Unit (CPU) for the Central Division arrested a 43-year-old woman and her 44-year-old male companion on reports of sexual abuse against a female victim. The abuse reportedly spanned an eight-month period.
The man was charged with 23 counts of sexual penetration of a child, while the woman was charged with:
- 16 counts of causing or encouraging the seduction, prostitution or sexual penetration of a child
- Three counts of prevention of cruelty to children
- Four counts of failing to report abuse of a minor
The man and woman are to answer to the chargers before a Chaguanas Magistrate today.
In another incident, on Saturday 29 February, officers of the Southern Division CPU arrested a 75-year-old man for one count of kidnapping and one count of sexual touching of a 12-year-old female victim.
The accused will appear before a Rio Claro Magistrate today, to answer to the charges.
And in the Tobago Division, CPU officers arrested a 28-year-old woman in connection with a report of physical abuse to a two-year-old boy.
The woman, who was intoxicated at the time of the arrest, remains in custody.
Charges in this case are also imminent.
