Four men have been ordered to face trial in the High Court for murder back in 2018.

The accused are: Shakeem Charles, Joseph George, Paul Williams and Isaiah Pantin.

The committal order was read to them by Chief Magistrate Busby-Earle Caddle via video conferencing. The court ruled that a prima facie case had been made out against them by the State.

The are charged with the murder of 27-year-old Jerrell Aris-Mendez, who lived at Fatima Trace, Laventille.

The victim was reportedly hired to transport four men to Cascade around 11.50 am on August 20, 2018.

While at Bagatelle Extension Road, Diego Martin, the passengers—two of whom were armed with firearms—told the victim it was a robbery.

A struggle ensued and Aris-Mendez being shot several times about the body. The suspects escaped on foot and the victim died at the scene.

The four were later arrested and charged with the offence on August 29, 2018.

Charles and George face additional charges of possession of firearm and ammunition. On the same day the accused before acting Deputy Chief Magistrate Nannette Ford-John in the Port-of-Spain Magistrates’ Court to answer the charges.
