Gunmen opened fire on a Fyzabad labourer on Wednesday night, killing him on the spot.
Investigators said 31-year-old Emmanuel Mc Meo, of Sewlal Trace, Fyzabad, suffered multiple gunshot wounds after being ambushed.
His common-law wife Wendy Cross reportedly told police that they were walking along a track near their home around 10:30 pm, when they were approached from behind by the gunmen.
Mc Meo started to run but the men pursued him, firing.
Neighbours alerted the police who responded promptly.
The gunmen fled but the officers managed to find three black shotgun cartridges at the scene of the crime.
