Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh says the 100,000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccines promised to T&T by the Chinese Government in March will be on its way to the country by early next week.
Speaking at the Prime Minister’s press conference on Friday afternoon, Deyalsingh said all the preparations made earlier this year between the two countries have been set into motion.
The Sinopharm Beijing vaccine was granted emergency approval by the World Health Organisation on Friday morning.
The health minister said outside of this donation; the T&T Government are already in talks to purchase doses of the Sinopharm vaccine.
“Outside of the 100,000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccines, we are already in talks to purchase vaccines on a commercial level from Sinopharm in the order of hundreds of thousands, so it is our intention from that to vaccinate ourselves out of this pandemic in the shortest possible space of time,” Deyalsingh said.
However, he warned the population that while vaccinations are ongoing, public health measures will still apply.
