National Security Minister Stuart Young’s criticism of an upsurge in litigation by illegal Venezuelan migrants has attracted the attention of the Law Association.
In a press release issued, a short while ago, the association noted Young’s comments made during a press conference, last week.
The association sought to remind the public that the Judiciary is duty-bound to uphold this country’s laws and to hear and determine all cases before it.
“For their part, attorneys-at-law are duty-bound to represent their clients fearlessly in order to ensure that the law is followed and the State is held to account,” the release said.
“The pandemic poses a danger to all of us, but the fundamental human rights and freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution to all who happen to be on our shores, including especially the rights of the child, the Independence of the Judiciary and the rule of law must not be disregarded even in these trying times,” it added.
