A loans officer, who works at Republic Bank, has been charged with the murder of teacher Suzette Sylvester, 48.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Couva Magistrate’s Court virtually Friday on the same day Sylvester’s funeral will take place at the house of mourning in Preysal.
On Monday morning at 6 police said Sylvester’s lifeless body was discovered by her son, who raised an alarm to his grandmother and uncle, who live next door their home at Mowlah Trace Extension.
Sylvester’s mother told police that she saw the suspect, a close male relative, leaving the compound.
However, police said the suspect walked into the police station in Chaguanas where he alerted them of the situation.
A party of police officers subsequently went to the scene where they met with grieving relatives who ushered them into Sylvester’s bedroom where they discovered her slumped on the ground near the bed
Investigators said Sylvester was involved in a domestic dispute over the weekend with a male relative.
Police said they were told that Sylvester later went to bed after 2 in the morning.
Sylvester was a Secondary School Literature teacher at the Preysal Secondary School. She formerly taught at the El Dorado Wet Secondary School.
