A 28-year-old Malabar man has been charged with the murder of a businessman.
The accused Andrew Sutton was expected to appear virtually in the Arima Magistrates’ Court yesterday having been charged with offence.
The Police Service said in a release that Sutton has been charged with the murder of businessman Nicholas Mohith following the advice of acting director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Joan Honore-Paul.
It was reported that around 4 pm on March 11 Mohith and his son, Nicholas Mohith, 31, were at their business place at Eastern Main Road, Arouca, when they were allegedly approached by a man with a firearm.
The man allegedly pointed the firearm at Nicholas and a loud explosion was heard.
Nicholas’ father then pushed a table at the assailant, who ran out of the premises.
The businessman chased after the assailant, however, the assailant escaped.
The man then returned to his business place and observed his son Nicholas with a gunshot wound to his stomach.
Nicholas was taken to the Arima Hospital and later transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex. He later died.
Sutton was later arrested and charged.
