A mother is now mourning the death of her 21-year-old son Cordell Ramlogan.

Ramlogan died at hospital this week from injuries he sustained after defending his mother during an argument she was having with her boyfriend earlier this month.

According to a police report, on December 13 at about 11.50 pm, the woman and her boyfriend were at her home at Crown Trace in Enterprise, Chaguanas, liming, when they started arguing. It is alleged that the woman slapped her boyfriend and he retaliated by throwing an object at her which hit her on the head. Ramlogan, who was at home at the time, attempted to be a peacemaker but then also allegedly hit the boyfriend with a piece of wood.

Police said the woman’s boyfriend eventually left the woman and her son alone but after a few minutes returned with a piece of iron and attacked Ramlogan, hitting him several times on the head.

Ramlogan was taken to the Chaguanas District Health Centre where he was treated and then transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope where he was warded.

Police said Ramlogan was put on life support but subsequently taken off on Monday and died.

Police said the suspect initially reported the incident to them but he was detained for questioning since the news of Ramlogan’s death.

Police said they are yet to take official statements from other witnesses.

Investigations are continuing.
