A Tobago man is expected to appear before a Scarborough Magistrate today, charged with the murder of Ellena Dial, who, on Wednesday 17th June 2020, succumbed to injuries she sustained in January 2020.
An official release from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) states that 20-year-old ANTONIO MARCELLE (aka ‘AJ’), of Les Couteaux, Tobago, was charged with the offence following advice received from Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard SC, on Monday 17th August 2020.
According to the TTPS statement, 19-year-old Ellena Dial of Riseland Trace, Carnbee, was at Kilgwyn Beach, on Tuesday 27th January 2020, when she was approached by assailants who threw a substance on her and set her on fire.
She was taken to Scarborough General Hospital for treatment for third degree burns to her face and upper torso. She was then transferred to the I.C.U. of the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex for further treatment, where she died on Wednesday 17th June, 2020.
The TTPS reports that investigations into the incident resulted in the arrest of a male suspect on Wednesday 12th August 2020.
The charge was laid against Marcelle by W/Sgt. Sterling of the Crown Point Police Station, on Monday 17th August 2020.
