A 36-year-old father has been ordered to stay away from his eight-year-old daughter as part of his bail arrangement, as he faces the charge of cruelty to a child.
According to an official police report, the man was granted $50,000 bail and told to stay 100 metres away from his daughter, when he appeared virtually before Chaguanas Magistrate Alexander Prince on June 14th, to answer to one count of cruelty to a child.
The child was placed in the custody of her mother pending a decision by the court.
The matter was adjourned to June 17th.
According to a report given by the eight-year-old girl, on September 13th, 2020, her father and his girlfriend had a dispute while in his motor vehicle. The woman is said to have fled the vehicle when they stopped at a minimart.
The man reportedly drove off with the child, who told police that he had physically attacked her.
A report was made to the Central Division Child Protection Unit (CPU) who investigated the case. The man was arrested and charged on June 11th, 2021.
The investigation was conducted by PC Ramkisssoon and spearheaded by W/Supt (Ag), Claire Guy-Alleyne, W/Insp Haynes and Sgt Jairam.
