Investigations are continuing into the death of a 61-year-old labourer from Valencia who died on Monday morning, after he got into a fight at his home and was struck with a hockey stick on his back.

According to a police report, at about 7:15 am, Christian Kalicharan was at Quarry Road when he got into a physical altercation with another man, during which he was dealt several blows to the back with a hockey stick.

Kalicharan’s close male relative intervened and took the stick away.  He then noticed that Kalicharan was exhibiting signs of a seizure. Kalicharan then fell to the ground, hitting his head and sustaining other injuries.

Kalicharan subsequently was taken to the Sangre Grande District Hospital where he was attended to. However, he was pronounced dead at about 7:37 am.

Investigations are continuing.
