The body of an unidentified man was found in a forested area off Riverside Road, Curepe, on Thursday night.

According to a police report, at about 8:15 pm, a group of hunters found the body down a precipice several metres from the road.

Officials said the body was in quite an advanced state of decomposition.

The body, police said, was clad in a blue jersey and a pair of blue pants.

The scene was visited by a team of police officers led by Snr Supt Ramphall, ASP Ettienne, and Inspector Mascall.

The body was removed to the Forensic Science Centre in St James pending identification and an autopsy to determine the actual cause of death.
