Flashback: Maracas Beach on the day before beaches were closed in August.

Seven people arrested on a beach in Mayaro on Monday are expected to face a magistrate on Wednesday for breaching the COVID-19 regulations.

Sharlene Ganesh, 36, Shivanna Sinanan, 20, Aaliah Herbert, 18, Adrian Medrano, 39, Evelyn Desantos, 41, and Arthur Phillips, 49, were each granted $500 bail after they were held and charged. According to a press release from the TT Police Service, they were caught during roving checks by police officers assigned to the Eastern Division between 3 pm and 7 pm.

Supervised by Sgt Bhim, the officers were conducting checks at coastal areas when they spotted the group.

All five live in Cunupia, Lange Park, and Enterprise.

They were granted bail and are expected to appear electronically before a Mayaro magistrate.

The prime minister Dr Keith Rowley announced on August 15 that beaches would be closed as the government and health officials moved to stop the spread of the coronavirus in this country, making it an offence to gather at the nation’s beaches.
