Three hundred students will now have access to the Ministry of Education’s online learning platform after two donor groups came forward yesterday to honour their commitments to the Ministry’s Adopt-A-School initiative.
According to the ministry, the Machel Montano Foundation for Greatness, in partnership with Blue Waters Limited and Courts (Trinidad) Limited, donated 200 devices – 185 tablets and 15 laptops yesterday.
The handover took place at the ministry’s St Vincent Street, Port of Spain headquarters where Minister Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly was on hand to collect the devices.
In a press release, the ministry said the devices will go to schools selected by the donors – the Carenage Girls’ school, the community where Montano, his brother and mother were born, the Siparia Boys’ RC, where Montano and brother Marcus went to school as children and Toco Secondary, where Montano is said to be very active.
The Macaulay Government Primary School was selected by Blue Waters to receive devices.
The second group to make good on their promise was the Esimaje Foundation.
Doctors Oti Esimaje and David Toby handed over 100 devices yesterday.
Father Ronald Medes of the Ansa Foundation, which is a part of the Esimaje Foundation, accompanied the doctors.
The devices will go to three schools in East Port-of-Spain – Nelson Street Boys’ RC, which will receive 60, South East Port-of-Spain Secondary, which will get 30 and the Russell Latapy Secondary School, which will get 10.
“Through its East Port-of-Spain Thrive initiative, the group seeks to create a community of opportunity centred around strong schools, strong families and strong neighbourhoods, with particular focus on empowering young men to become tomorrow’s leaders,” the ministry said in its release.
