Nine people, including a visually impaired man, are now homeless after a fire completely destroyed three homes at Cavalier Hill in Port of Spain.

The fire occurred just after midday today, Monday 30 November 2020.

Details are still sketchy; however, Guardian Media understands that the fire started at the home of the visually impaired man, known as “Old Man Jeffers” at about 12:30 pm.  He had to be rescued from the burning house by neighbours and taken down the hill from his house.

Residents said the fire quickly spread to one other house close to that of the first victim.

A third house was water damaged, residents said.

Residents said the victims lost everything in the blaze.

Investigations continue.
