The National Joint Action Committee (NJAC) congratulates the Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP) on its resounding victory in the just concluded Tobago House of Assembly Elections.

NJAC also congratulates the people of Tobago for taking this bold step forward, in an attempt to shift the paradigm of development in Tobago.

The results of the elections indicate that the people of Tobago have spoken most emphatically, about their choice of leadership to take Tobago forward over the next four years.

NJAC finds it noteworthy that in his victory speech last night, the Chief Secretary designate, Mr. Farley Chavez Augustine, appealed to all of Tobago, regardless of party, to join in the movement to transform the island into being one of the greatest small islands on the planet, where equity and justice in all facets of life on the island could prevail. He also emphasised that he would be a leader for all of Tobago and not just of a part, regardless of political affiliation.

NJAC welcomes this approach to the island’s development, as it suggests that the principles of mobilisation and people’s power would form part of the foundation on which a new Tobago is built.

NJAC hopes that this victory would be an impetus towards the realisation of the implementation of the Tobago Autonomy Bill which has been stuck in the parliament for several years now and which is critical to Tobago’s transformation.
