A 37-year-old man was denied bail yesterday when he appeared before a Sangre Grande Magistrate charged with seven counts of sexual penetration of his 16-year-old daughter.
The accused was remanded into custody and will reappear before the court on October 13.
According to the TTPS, the man was arrested and charged by WPC Brooks of the Eastern Division Child Protection Unit (CPU) with the offences on Monday, September 20.
The charges were laid after the police received a report which was made in August in which a mother detailed the alleged sexual abuse of her daughter by the girl’s father.
Police said the incidents of sexual intercourse reportedly occurred during the period February 2019 to August 2021 while at the man’s house.
The father was subsequently arrested and charged with seven counts of sexual penetration of a child.
The investigation was spearheaded by W/Superintendent (Ag), Claire Guy-Alleyne with direct supervision by Sgt Baptiste of the Eastern Division CPU.
In an unrelated matter, a 50-year-old man is in police custody assisting officers with their investigations into the seizure of a quantity of marijuana yesterday morning.
The TTPS said, police officers assigned to the Eastern Division Task Force (EDTF) and Sangre Grande Criminal Investigations Department (CID), executed an exercise in the Biche community, after receiving a tip-off, where they allegedly found a man in possession of 82 grammes of cannabis.
The suspect was later arrested and charged in connection with the find.
Meanwhile, during the same exercise, the team of officers proceeded to Gonzales Street, Biche, where they seized 280 grammes of cannabis along with camouflage pants and jacket at an open area.
PC Mohammed of the EDTF is continuing investigations.
Investigators have called on anyone with information on the owner of the narcotic and the camouflage clothing found along Gonzales Street, Biche, to contact the EDTF or the Sangre Grande CID at 668-4315 or 691-0133, respectively.
